4 great ways to repair your damage screen

Okay, so your phone screen is cracked. It happens to the best of us. The good news is that you don’t necessarily need to buy a new phone.
The best thing you can do is repair it immediately. A single crack can worsen over time and lead to a shattered screen. Loose shards of glass are dangerous — particularly if they are in constant contact with your face and fingers.
Cracks can also expose your phone to environmental debris and toxins. Over time, this can affect the device’s functionality and usability. (Also, a cracked screen just doesn’t look that good.)
Until you can get it fixed, put a plastic screen cover on your phone. Then look around for the best way to solve the problem permanently.
Here are some different ways you can fix your screen, from the lowest to the highest price:
1. DIY
Repair manual websites like iFixIt have several tutorials on how to fix various devices’ phone screens, complete with guides on what components you should purchase and where you can get them. This can get a little pricey — an iPhone 6 screen repair kit costs about $150 — but it is cheaper than buying a new phone altogether.
Of course, not all of us have the skills or time to fix our own phone screens. Moving on…
2. Hire someone to do the repair
If you are enrolled in a device protection program with your phone company, you may make an insurance claim to have it fixed by a contracted technician. Verizon, for example, contracts from Asurion, which can get your phone fixed within one business day.
Otherwise, a quick Internet search should give you a list of phone screen repair stores around your area. The Huffington Post called a repair store in Manhattan for an estimate and learned that the work would take exactly 25 minutes and cost over $100.
Just make sure your phone is protected by a password before you hand it off to a stranger.
3. Get the mobile provider or phone manufacturer to fix it
If you cracked your screen during your manufacturer’s warranty period, you should be able to get it fixed for free and within a few hours’ time. (Bear in mind, though, that the standard limited warranties of many manufacturers, such as Apple and Samsung, do not cover accidents.) Out-of-warranty screen repairs cost upwards of $100.
4. If all else fails, trade in your phone
Vendors such as uSell, Glyde and Gazellewill buy your phone so you can get a new one, but be aware that damaged phones will only get you about 50 percent of what the device was originally worth.Okay, so your phone screen is cracked. It happens to the best of us. The good news is that you don’t necessarily need to buy a new phone.

First world's human cornea printed in Newcastle University with 3D printer by scientists

Researchers have created the most advanced artificial cornea ever using 3D printing and human stem cells. The technology, if successfully developed, could help millions of people around the world see a clearer future.
The cornea is the protective, clear outer layer covering the eye. When it’s damage, it creates serious vision problems or can cause blindness. Currently, people with damaged corneas hope for healthy corneas transplants from deceased donors, but the need far exceeds the supply.

Enter the artificial corneas developed by engineers from Newcastle University, detailed in a paper published in Experimental Eye Research. The 3D printed corneas are not easy to develop: first, there’s the problem of distinctive curved shape of the human cornea. Researchers used a special camera to photograph a volunteer’s eyeballs to create 3D model, the first time that the cornea shape has been printed. Next, scientists need to create an ink thin enough to filter through a 3D printer, but firm enough to maintain a 3D shape. To get the right texture, researchers created a bioink using stem cells from donor corneas, adding it to alginate (a jelly-like goo) and collagen (ropy proteins). The result looks something like a contact lens, but can do a lot more to repair vision.

Artificial corneas will still require actual cornea donations, but they’ll be able to make each cornea donation go a lot farther. Instead of replacing one damaged cornea with a healthy one, scientists would be able to grow enough cells from one donated cornea to print 50 artificial ones.

$10,000 Apple watch might no longer be in use

Sooner or later, time will claim us all. But while you or I might still have a few decades left in us, the $10,000 version of the Apple Watch, first released in 2015, is not so lucky. After three years of software updates (that is, roughly $3,333.33 per year), the Apple Watch Edition has reached its end of life and will no longer be receiving software upgrades.

As spotted by Andrew Cunningham, the next version of Apple's watchOS operating system announced yesterday at the kickoff of the WWDC developers conference, will not be compatible with first generation Apple Watches. Among those first-gen devices? The Apple Watch Edition which cost anywhere from $10,000 up to a whopping $17,000 before it was discontinued in 2016.

A lack of updates will not cause the watch to cease functioning, at least not yet. It will simply be ineligible for the latest Apple Watch features that require the most up-to-date operating system. It's possible, however, that somewhere down the line, future versions of iOS might drop support for outdated versions of Apple's watchOS entirely. These kinds of breaks have been known to happen as tech marches on, like when iOS 11 cut ties with all 32-bit apps that weren't updated to 64-bit by developers or when iTunes dropped support for the first-gen Apple TV.

It's unlikely that anyone who bought these pricey watches really expected them to last forever, and if you had ten grand to drop on one in the first place, it stands to reason that an upgrade isnt' really out of the question. Still, the sky-high price of the Apple Watch Edition illustrates the natural conclusion of a consumer electronics market much more concerned with pumping new gadgets into the wild than supporting the ones that already exist. If this kind of stuff can fly, no wonder no one is bothering to fix what is actually wrong with phones.

5G phones coming out soon. And 5G network to come life by 2019

Smartphone sales will increase just 0.2 per cent to 1.95 billion units in 2018, with the industry unlikely to see significant momentum until 5G-ready devices hit the market, CCS Insight predicted.
The company expects smartphone sales in both Western Europe and North America to dip this year, as global demand begins to stall. The European market is expected to drop 7 per cent year-on-year, with North America tipped to drop 3 per cent.
CCS Insight attributed the slowdown to “new smartphones offering little more than an incremental update on previous models”.
“Consumers in mature markets have been underwhelmed by the latest crop of flagship smartphones,” said Marina Koytcheva, CCS Insight VP of forecasting, adding: “Price hikes for top-end devices, with some of the latest and greatest devices hitting $1,000 or €1,000 have certainly not helped and it’s little surprise that consumers have decided they might as well stick with the device they already own.”
5G boostCCS Insight predicted the slow growth will continue until around 2021, when 5G begins to “reignite sales”. But smartphone makers will have to be patient “as they wait for this next wave of upgrade activity”, even though the first 5G networks are expected to go live in 2019.
The company forecast significant smartphone demand will only begin in 2021, with a positive impact expected in 2022 when 600 million 5G-enabled phones are expected to be sold.
These devices will represent around 30 per cent of the global market in 2022, pushing sales up to more than 2 billion units in the same year.
“The arrival of 5G handsets offers a glimmer of hope for embattled smartphone markets,” Koytcheva added.
“They’re betting that this new, faster technology will give consumers a reason to upgrade their phones.”
CCS Insight added the slowing demand in Europe and North America in 2018 will be offset by a better outlook in emerging markets in Asia-Pacific, India and Africa. Koytcheva, however, also cautioned consumers in these markets are also taking up smartphones more slowly than expected.

Samsung set to launch galaxynote9 in August

All eyes are now on Samsung as the company gears up to launch its second flagship smartphone of the year. Much has already been said about the Galaxy Note 9 and the features that it’s expected to bring. A new report claims that the Galaxy Note 9 launch is going to take place in early August and that one of the biggest selling points of the new device will be its revamped camera.

Galaxy Note 9 launch

It’s not surprising to hear that Samsung may be planning to highlight a revamped camera with the Galaxy Note 9, considering the fact that the company introduced its dual camera setup with the Galaxy Note 8 last year which eventually made its way to the Galaxy S9 in 2018.
Citing people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg reports that the Galaxy Note 9 launch will take place on August 9 and that the camera will be one of the main features of the new device. It’s said to look similar to its predecessor and will feature the Snapdragon 845 processor from Qualcomm in markets where Samsung doesn’t ship the Exynos variant.
The Unpacked event for the Galaxy Note 9 launch will reportedly take place two weeks earlier than it did last year. The company is believed to be aiming for a release by the end of August. The plans could shift, though, the report cautions.
The report doesn’t make any groundbreaking revelations to be honest. Samsung was already expected to host the Galaxy Note 9 launch a bit earlier than it did for the Galaxy Note 8 last year. Any major technological advancements such as the in-display fingerprint sensor are now believed to be kept for the Galaxy S10 next year even though it was previously rumored that Samsung might finally introduce it with the Galaxy Note 9 this year.
No word as yet on how much the Galaxy Note 9 is going to cost and precisely when Samsung is going to release it. With August only a couple of months away it won’t be long until we have all of that information.

Here are the New phones of the week, Xiaomi Mi 8 tops the list

Here are the New phones of the week, Xiaomi Mi 8 tops the list
The deluge of new phone announcements continues in what used to be a slow season in our line of work. For the third week in a row, we have a whole bunch of new releases, spanning all market segments.
High up top, we have the Xiaomi Mi 8 - the company's commemorative 8th-anniversary handset. 6.21-inch notched AMOLED display, the latest Snapdragon 845, and a tricked out dual camera, what else can you ask for?
How about a transparent back and an under-display fingerprint scanner? That's where the Mi 8 Explorer edition comes in.
Less exclusive, but equally intriguing, the Mi 8 SE midranger is the first to employ Qualcomm's newest mid-tier Snapdragon 710 chip. A review unit would be much appreciated, Xiaomi.
Nokia updated a significant part of its portfolio for 2018, with .1 upgrades for the 2, 3, and 5 series. Those three we even spent some time with, so you can check that out if you've missed it.
Meizu rolled out an entry-level smartphone this week, the M6T. How smartphones have evolved, when entry-level means octa-core CPU, dual camera, and a trendy tall screen.
There's also that half of a new announcement coming from LG. Updates in the V-series have come in increments of 10, so it's not just us trying to be funny - LG is well aware that a chipset bump and a couple of minor camera changes don't really make a new phone, so now we have the V35 ThinQ.
